The Tarrant County District Clerk manages a department with a $9 million budget that is important to the operation of the District Courts in Tarrant County. This office interfaces with the courts to manage the paperwork, personnel, money and the computer operations necessary to the judicial system.

Under Tom Wilder's management, the Tarrant County District Clerk's Office now has the lowest staffing ratio per court compared among the five largest Texas Counties saving Tarrant County taxpayers over one million dollars every year in personnel costs.

District Clerk Wilder has saved the taxpayers' money by modernizing Tarrant County's legal record system; expediting the collection of filing fees and criminal court costs and fines; offering new court services which generate new revenue for the county, and by using work release inmates from the county jail for minor construction projects.

District Clerk Wilder was received the "Best Practices Award" from Texas Association of Counties in August 2002 and 2004 (read article) for using computer technology to increase security and access to District Court records. He has also instituted an internet home page which can be accessed at www.tarrantcounty.com and click on Departments and District Clerk.
